Hey, my name is Joe Charles and I’m a stand-up comedian living in beautiful Southern California. I’ve been doing this stand-up thing for a while now and I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing on stage and how to do it the best I can.
My stand-up career has taken me across the country and halfway around the world. I’ve met a lot of funny people and, unfortunately, a lot of shitheads in this business. But the best thing comedy has done for me is: it has given me purpose. It gives me a reason to wakeup everyday to try again.
It really is therapeutic. The experience of stepping on stage and making a connection with a group of strangers is something special. Whether I’m making them laugh, sad, angry, frustrated, happy, content, etc., it’s all addictive.
The trick is to do this and remember you’re still a comic and these people are trying to laugh, have a good time and forget about their own miserable bullshit when they come see your self-righteous ass. It’s a very complex game to play.
